Sunday

It sure has gotten quite around here

Seems like it happened overnight.  The pretty song birds have stopped singing, the woodpeckers aren’t tapping on deadwood, no frogs croaking and we haven’t seen a bear, squirrel or beaver in weeks.  Every once in awhile we hear a Blue Jay scolding or the whip-poor-will, whip-poor-willing and the little hummingbirds are always right outside the windows doing their chirpy thing, but the rest of them have gone silent or disappeared.

With the trail cams, we still see what’s lurking out there.  I’m not a big fan of raccoons, but this is one of the cutest pictures we’ve gotten of one of them.

July 23 Raccoon Standing TallLast night the big ol’ buck stopped by with the little buck we’re calling Junior.  Oh my gosh, he looks so tiny next to the big guy.  He must  think “when I grow up I want to look just like him”.  PICT0130The buck really is a beauty.  Here he is with one of the many bunnies that hang around here.  This buck will make some hunter very happy this fall.  But maybe he’ll survive another year.  We couldn’t believe he survived last winter.July 23 Buck & Bunny

Tomorrow we’re going home for a couple days .  I have a gallon of sugar water ready to  fill the hummingbird feeders and hope it will last them for 2-3 days.  Jim refills the big one everyday.   He’ll put out sunflower seeds for the birds and probably throw down a handful or two of corn for the little doe that comes by way too often.   It will be a quick trip home.  Pick up the mail, do laundry, mow the grass and then back on the road again.  We sure can’t complain about the kind of weather we’ve had up here lately.  So nice compare to the heat, humidity and storms so many of you are enduring.   You won’t hear one word of complaining out of me.

What a wonderful post, Cindy. Calming and beautiful and newsy, just great. One thing though, I hope the hunters miss this guy. He's gorgeous and that little one will need his dad. You can guess how much I hate hunting. There are grocery stores for pity sakes, and to kill for the thrill is just...sickening to me.
But I loved this post and more times than I can count, I've wished I was sitting in the middle of that land :D

I'm with Jenny, hope this beautiful buck escapes the hunters. My birds have been weird too though finally getting a few hummers back after they disappeared for awhile.

Safe travels tomorrow. Hope it's not too hot and muggy when you get there. All the storms over the last few days has cleared out the humidity (at least in MI). Maybe it will be the same for you too.

When the wildlife gets quiet to notice that's ah sign I say. Weather change is the first to think of but in this case I don't know. Would be interesting to keep an eye on changes. Rocky the raccoon is so cute like he's gonna dance for the camera! All he needs is ah stick for ah cane an start the ole soft shoe!
That beautiful buck is surely magnificent. Hope he survives the winter. I know white tail needs culling with hunters every year but hope he remains. Glad you had a great birthday fish fry! Have a safe trip home and back again. I sure would like to request you showing that video of the gal playing the harmonica again.HMM? Hugs and to Molly too!

@JennyD...I should let you know many, many people hunt for the meat. Things are really tough for lots of people up here in Northern Wisconsin and they rely on venison to feed their families. Also, my husband hunts because he likes to eat venison, not just for the trophy. He grew up hunting, eating venison and it's always been a big part of his life.

What a rack on that pretty guy! I hope he and the hunters don't meet up too. lol
Mr Coon looks as though he knows he's being watched. I swear I have GOT to get me one of those trail cams. Though I know I'd probably never see a deer in the yard. Then again.. I might not want to see what's walking around in the backyard in the dark!

He is so beautiful..almost stately. I hope he survives some more winters. You sure are right, that raccoon is adorable standing up like that. Wonder what got him standing? Do they hear the click of a camera do you think?
