The things you see after a winters worth of snow melts. On our walk today I saw a pair of socks, broken sunglasses, a pedometer and a red solo cup. One year we found a pair of fancy, pink and black lacquered chop sticks on our lawn. No clue where they came from.

A full day of sunshine and temps in the forties helped melt the snow today. There's still plenty left for the predicted rain to turn it to mush. And we tried a new Mexican restaurant today. Good food, served piping hot and very good service.

Finally a nice, sunny, spring-like day! Went to the car wash and took a walk out by Wilbur.

Unless we get a major heat wave in the next couple days, we'll be having a white Easter this year. It's going to take a lot of sun and heat to melt the snow bank along this road.

A pretty nice day. I got supplies for my next scrapbook project and Jim finished another stained glass piece. FYI...he likes the old style University of Wisconsin logo better than the new flying W, so that's what this piece is all about.

Finally saw all my signs of spring today. A robin, Sandhill crane and redwing blackbird. Now if all the snow would melt, we could actually have spring

Flowers at Bellingrath Gardens, on the USS Alabama and trying my luck at the hotel casino. I managed to lose the $10 credit given to us by the casino.

Our last day in New Orleans was so much fun. Had a great time on the swamp tour, then a stop at Mardi Gras World where they make most of the floats for the parades. Then it was time for some serious shopping and coffee at Cafe de Munde.

A stop at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, lunch at Lambert's where they through you dinner rolls, European night crawlers? That was a mystery. And our "rest stop" at Graceland. We didn't get into the house, but we also didn't have to wait in line with another 100 people. Tonight we're in Jackson, Mississippi.

A nice sunny day, even though it's still too cold to really melt much snow. But hopefully by the time I get back from my trip, things will start to look springy around here.

Suitcase packed for my next Bucket List Adventure. It will be so nice to get away from cold and snowy Wisconsin for awhile. Thursday I'll be joining my travel partner and we'll be heading to The Big Easy with other fun stops on the way and way back. Stay tuned...

Many years ago a friend of Jim's gave him a box of stained glass pieces. This is the first of three samplers he's going to make. Today we went to Baraboo to visit with my brother again. It was a nice day for all of us, especially for Pepper the lapdog.

March 10, 2013

A very foggy morning but it's to be expected when the temps are in the 40's and there's a thick layer of snow on the ground. The cardinals are singing and Farm & Fleet has out all kinds of spring supplies and that's a good thing.

Google recently add a new app for smart phones called Field Trip.  I thought it sounded interesting and downloaded it.  From your current location it shows various historic sites, businesses and other points of interest.  The first thing that appeared from my location was called Elvis Presley Fight Scene.  Well I'd never heard of this and couldn't believe it when I saw the marker was about a half mile from our house.  It's a place we've gone by thousands of times and I never knew anything about it or noticed the monument until yesterday...but of course I was looking for it.

Inscription. On this site, the corner of Hwy 51 and East Washington Avenue around 1 am, on June 24th, 1977, Elvis Presley was riding in the 2nd of two limousines which had stopped for a red light. He was coming from a concert in Des Moines and had just arrived in Madison. Elvis noticed a young teen on the ground being beaten by two other youths here at the former Skyland Service Station. Elvis jumped out of his limo and moved quickly to the fight scene. They admitted later that they knew it was the legendary Elvis Presley who was standing in front of them in his classic karate stance saying "I'll take you on". After a few classic karate moves by Elvis, the youths recognized him, stood and shook hands, and promised to stop fighting. Elvis asked "Is everything settled now"? Elvis was on his way to the Sheraton and his last Madison appearance. He died 52 days later, on August 16th, 1977.

Found a new, really good spot for lunch in Lake Mills. Like I said, Wilbur comes a running when he sees us walking down the road. Today was no exception. The sun tried to shine, but didn't quite make it.

This doesn't have the effect I was hoping for, but I'm sharing it anyway. Once it started snowing today, I took a picture once an hour from the same spot. It's hard to see that during these 8 hours we got around 6 inches of snow, which is 6 inches more than I wanted.

Did a bunch of things today before the big snow storm gets here. Stopped at The Vinery for supplies and went to see "Wilbur". He likes the treats we bring him and came a running when he saw us coming down the road.
