My new favorite thing

Last Saturday at the flea market I bought this cool stained glass candle holder.

I got it home, cleaned it up and put a candle in it to see how it looked.  I really liked it, but the only problem with it is I'm not a big fan of candles.  Most are scented, which I don't care for, but the main reason is fire danger.

So, on Sunday we were at Menards and I saw what's called a frameless candle.  Huh?  I thought and took a closer look at them.   I tried out the sample candle and thought this is perfect!

It takes two AA batteries and has a neat automatic feature.  When you flip the switch to "timer", it will stay on for 5 hours and will start up again at the same time the next day and it does flicker just like a real candle.  The scent is so faint I can hardly smell it.  And if I have to have a scented one, vanilla is fine.

Cool huh?

So many pretty wildflowers this summer. Every week something new starts blooming. Fireweed, day lilies, brown eyed Susan's, more fireweed and Turk's cap lilies.

Today was the Bennett Volunteer Fire Department's annual flea market. We got there bright and early before all the "treasures" were gone.  Lots of people were there and lots of people donated tons of stuff for the benefit.

Here's how it works for the items not priced, which was most of the outside stuff.  You gather up the items you want, find one of the volunteer firemen an make an offer.  Most reasonable offers are quickly accepted.  They like to kid around saying their starting price is $20, but usually accept your offer.  This is what we bought today for a grand total of $16.

I got the buy of the day for $1.  It's a handmade stained glass candle holder.  Jim always buys weird stuff like that aluminum blade. But all the money goes for a good cause so in the end, it's all good.  Speaking of good...those donuts are he best!  Taste just like the fried cakes my mom used to make.

This isn't a very good picture of the candle holder, but you get the idea what it looks like with a light inside.

Not everyday do we see something like this parked along a dirt road. No idea what it is or who it belongs to or why it was parked there.

I finally saw a turtle cruising across our lawn.  I'm hoping it was on its way back to the pond after laying some eggs.

Not happy about the deer that decided to munch on our zucchini and eggplants last night.  Yesterday there were three or four nice little zucchinis and now they're all gone.  More fencing has been added.

And a final picture from Lake St. Croix this morning.  It was very calm and very nice.

The trail cam got a picture of a little buck and I took the rest of these. Surprised by how well our garden plants are doing. We had our first cucumber today. Nummy.

She's almost 13 and she can't see very well anymore, but if you throw her a white birch stick, she'll see it and gladly bring it back...especially on a hot summer morning.  Way to go Molly!

In most areas peonies bloom in May. Not up here. This one's just in time for the Fourth of July!
